Welcome to the official website of the European Standard School Debate Club (ESSDC). Here you'll find updates, photographs and archived information about the club alongside related news on what's happening in the English debating arena of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

 

As the first formal extracurricular activities club in the ESS school, ESSDC aims to promote English debate throughout the school. Our objective is to help young debaters argue logically and effectively, and to think without bias. But most of all, we at ESSDC believe that debate should be fun, engaging and entertaining smiley-wink.gif

JDC Debate Festival 2011
September 28, 2011

After losing the first round to Team DT, ESSDC marched on to the quarter finals, as the 4th breaking team having 3 wins out of 4. They faced Team Maple Leaf 2 in the quarters where they defeated them by a 3-0 ballot difference. After a heated semi-finals against Team Vertical Horizon, ESSDC went on to the finals by defeating them by a 3-2 ballot difference where they faced-off against Team Manarat, where they defeated team Manarat by a ballot difference of 4-1, clinching the trophy.

The winning teams consiste of: Asif Hassan; Asif Mehedi Adi; Tahsin Islam

2nd SFX Greenherald Debating Championship
September 28, 2011

After an all ESS semi-finals, Team 2 qualified for the finals beating Team 1 by a 7-0 ballot difference. Team 2 faced team Academia where they defeated them by a ballot difference of 10-1. The motion for the final was, "THW Televise criminal trials."

The winning team consisted of: Kazi Waseef; Shams Shaher; Pabita M. Saikee.

4th MTB Student Banking BUETDC Debate Championship
September 28, 2011

A British Parliamentary debate championship for school students witnessed ESSDC clinching the trophy. After a long time, ESSDC has won a trophy. Initially, both the teams qualified for the semi-finals. The teams were:

Team 1: Tahsin Islam; Asif Hassan; Asif Mehedi Adi [Substitue]

Team 2: Shams Shaher; Kazi Waseef

 

In the semi-fnals, Team 1 got out as they ranked 3rd among the 4 teams. Team 2 ranked no. 1 in the semi-finals and marched straight to the finals where they were the Opposition in the upper house, facing Viqarunnisa Noon School as the Upper House Government, Manarat 1 as the lower house government and Team JDC as the lower house opposition.

 

In the nail biting finals, ESSDC finished on no.1 becoming the champions in the 4th MTB STudent Banking BUETDC Debate Championship! Manarat 1 ended up as the first runner up. Congratulations to them!
